'REFUGE - Great Blue Heron'

'Ginna + 'REFUGE - Great Blue Heron'

This 50 inch square oil painting is my refuge that gave me solace as I worked on it during the tumultuous period leading up to the 2016 Presidential election year. I find irony in the fact that 40 years earlier, I painted another large oil painting reacting to world events and the 1976 Presidential election situation in my work called “Life’s A Bowl O’ Mercury”.

I see elements of escapism in the way the water-way takes one back and back and back; and also in the gossamer ‘veils’ of shimmering color that mysteriously surround the Great Blue Heron. This bird symbolizes patience and steadiness, which I hope the world can hold on to in this erratic era in our world.
