‘Quantum Energy, Light and Color
by
Ginna Parsons Lagergren
The subjects of my paintings are represented through a prism of my intrigue with concepts of Quantum Theory. Here is Webster’s Dictionary definition: quantum theory n : a theory in physics based on the concept of the subdivision of radiant energy into finite quanta and applied to numerous processes involving transference or transformation of energy in an atomic or molecular scale.
I feel there is an energy transfer ultimately between all space, matter and beings. Therefore my images are often extended into each other - to reflect this theory and perhaps tell a story.
Also, as a colorist, my fascination with the theory of quantum energy has expanded to my own 'Theory of relativity of color and light' relating to energy and forms.
It goes like this: "Matter and beings appear solid but are in fact actually microscopic bits of moving quantum energy in space. The forms just appear solid to our eyes because their surfaces are reflecting light and color".
My painting images often explore this energy, light and color, sometimes with realism, or with abstraction, or both, which I believe parallels the physical world.
To depict this energy in my paintings I use oil paints and occasionally acrylic paints, with palette knives and brushes.
I also love to paint with pure-paint-pigment sticks - known as Soft Pastels, (as a painting medium -not a drawing medium) and even extend the pastel image onto the mat.
In addition, I often carve and paint the frames in order to expand or extend the energy of the central images to the outer edges of the piece. (Here's an example of a pastel on paper and mat and carved frame below.)– G.P.L.
